For left-handed writers, vertical writing has a practical advantage: your hand is less likely to pass over freshly written text and smudge the ink.

In Japan, vertically ruled letter paper often has a formal or traditional look. We wanted something easier to use for an everyday note to a friend, so we created this casual vertical letter set with generous line spacing and a modern design.

The blue-toned illustrations were created by Japanese illustrator and art director Ayano Usamura. Look closely and you’ll find small left-handed details throughout the design: the fountain pen sits on the left, the mug handle faces left, and a small “Left-handed” mark appears in the corner.
