A Traditional “Banshu” Sickle, Reimagined as a Gift
Handcrafted in Ono City, Hyogo Prefecture, the Banshu sickle has been celebrated across Japan since the Meiji era. This left-handed version features a single-bevel blade, sharpened only on one side for clean, effortless cutting.
The Usugama (“thin sickle”) model uses an exceptionally sharp blade, forged thin and finished with the Suki grind—a technique that gently hollows the blade’s back to reduce friction and enhance smoothness. This sharpening method was first pioneered in the Banshu region.
