Did you know? August 13 is Left-Handers Day—a day dedicated to celebrating left-handed people around the world.
What is Left-Handers Day?
Left-Handers Day was established in 1992 by the Left-Handers Club, a group formed by the UK-based store Anything Left-Handed.
The date, August 13, was chosen in honor of the founder’s birthday.
It’s a day to raise awareness of the challenges left-handers face in a right-handed world—and to highlight tools designed to make life easier and more enjoyable for left-handers.
A Special Day for HIDARI, Too
For HIDARI, August 13 holds even deeper meaning.
Back in 2018, our founder Aya—a left-hander and lifelong lover of well-made tools and stationery—launched our online store in Japan on this very day. She wanted to bring beautifully crafted, high-quality left-handed tools to others who share the same experience.
Since then, HIDARI has grown to offer a carefully curated selection of products that are not only left-handed-friendly, but also stand out for their quality, functionality, and long-lasting design. What started with just a handful of items has expanded to over 100 unique products, including many of our own originals. Today, we proudly ship these items to customers not only in Japan but around the world.
On August 13, 2023, we opened our physical store in Kakamigahara, Gifu Prefecture. The shop is open only a few days each month, but has quickly become a must-visit spot for left-handers from across Japan—and beyond.
What makes our store extra special is the chance to see and try our products in person. Our team loves meeting customers and chatting with everyone who stops by. If you're ever in Japan—or in Gifu—please drop by and say hello!
